Ah homecoming, it's a joy and a burden. It is becoming harder and harder to find modest formal dresses, and it's always a debate whether to spend "years" looking for a modest dress or to just buy an immodest one that can be altered. I decided to have this one altered. Originally, this dress didn't have any sleeves or straps but we were fortunate enough to find perfectly matching fabric. My mom and I had a discussion on whether or not this "sleeve" would be considered modest, and I actually don't have the answer. I think it is fine because it covers the cap of my shoulder, but obviously it wouldn't cover enough for an endowed member of the church. My mom also felt it was a bit low in the front. When dealing with modesty I think there is somewhat of a grey area. We have guidelines in For the Strength of Youth book, but there are still so many nuances left to personal interpretation. If you have any question or comments feel free to leave them below and I will try to answer to the best of my ability.

Tone it down
I am a huge fan of bold colors, but sometimes it's nice to "tone it down." We are headed full speed into fall which it a great time to experiment with mellow tones. I love browns and golds because I feel they highlight my skin and hair color in a flattering way. Try different colors and see which ones look best on you. This sweater was originally open in the back so I just threw on a tank top to cover up.
